Making a PDF of a blog site
-
Hi, I’m trying to successfully make a PDF of a blog site. As a teacher I ask my students to submit their blogs (used as formative learning tool) as a PDF, and currently we do this using Adobe Acrobat and the ‘create PDF from webpage’ function. However, the results can be very mixed with lots of errors and content that is repeated or not needed. I feel that the different blog designs and layouts may have bearing on how successful this PDF creation is. Question 1 – is there a particular design or blog layout choice that can be used that makes it more likely succeed when exported as a PDF in Acrobat. Q2 – is there another way or program that can be used to create clean PDF of the sites contents? Many thanks, Robert.

Hi there,
I’m not able to help you with regards to question 1. All our active (to distinguish from retired) themes are optimised for printing, so if you print a page as PDF it should work. However, your mileage might vary, as they say.
If the main focus is the content, rather than the overall look of the site, then I can recommend blogbooker.com. That service uses the export file we provide, and then produces a printable PDF document of the content. Their free option is limited in the size of export file and I think how many conversions you can do in a given time period last time I checked, but it works pretty well.
Note that for any images in posts and pages to be included in the PDF the site will need to be set to public. Hidden from search engines is fine, but if the site is set to private blogbooker won’t be able to pull those images in from the site.
