Making a select set of plugins available as an upgrade

I’m a software developer. I post a great amount of source code in my blog and I came to wordpress because it has a syntax highlight plugin.

I’d like to stay here. WordPress offers several features which I like. I also understand the security concerns about plugins.

There is a whole bunch of plugins available for download at wordpress.org. I agree that checking each of them would be too expensive for a free service. OTOH, people would not want to wait for a long time until someone from wordpress.com finds the time to check the new version of some plugin. So it’s a loose-loose situation. Since the sticky on this topic is about why users of .com won’t get plugins, it’s an important topic.

Why don’t you offer a select few plugins for, say, $30/year. That would generate a constant revenue stream which would allow the company to set up someone to check plugins and flag them OK for production use. Over time, more and more plugins could be verified, getting both sides what they want. To streamline the process, create a voting system and verify the topmost voted plugins, first.

    What am I missing?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

They do: are you not aware of the paid upgrades?

I didn’t find such an option under paid upgrades. I have: “Custom CSS”, some space upgrades, “Unlimited Private Users” and “No-ads” plus “Gifts” and “Domains”. Nothing about plugins.

Can I assume that I won’t get an answer to this question?

I’m asking since there is no search option in the forum, Google can’t search it either, and the sticky post doesn’t answer it.

There’s no search box on this page but there certainly is for the forum:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/

You can also use site:wordpress.com to search in Google.

Hm. I tried site:en.forums.wordpress.com yesterday and that didn’t work. Probably a typo. Thanks.

After the search worked, I found a bit more info. Nothing which directly answers my question but apparently, the guys behind WordPress.com want us to tell them which plugins we’d like to have (http://support.wordpress.com/plugins/) via the contact form (http://support.wordpress.com/contact/).

I haven’t found a good topic so I chose “Configuration”.

Okay, that apparently worked. I got a mail today saying that WO has added my request to the pile. So if you need some plugin, too, let them know.

And just a few moments ago, I stumbled over this FAQ: http://support.wordpress.com/code/

It explains how to syntax highlight code in WP.
