making authors sidebar widget a dropdown menu

  I’m creating a wordpress page that’s going to feature a lot of different authors and I would like to have an authors dropdown menu in my sidebar. I’m using the WP_Authors widget right now but it only creates a list, which is going to be awkwardly long when the site is up and running. Is there any way of altering the code in the plugin to make it display as a dropdown menu? I know I can use the text widget to create an authors list as well; is there any way of encoding that to be a dropdown?

  If you’re using plugins, then you don’t have a wp.com blog. If you’re using wp.org software on a self-hosted blog, then try asking at the wp.org forums.
