Making Blog a business website
-
I have been using the standard, free wordpress.com blog for several years. I like the way it is set up and would like to make it a website for a farm business we are starting.
–Can I use the free version as is or do I have to upgrade?
–If upgrade, which do I need? I would like to have NO wordpress ads, and extra storage, and need ability to advertise personal items for sale, but I do NOT need e-mail accounts, phone services, or access to tons of themes and such.
Can someone please clear up my confusion regarding this? Thanks in advanceThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No ads upgrade $30 a year.
Extra storage $30 a year and up.
Ability to advertise YOUR personal items for sale, free. Ability to advertise someone else’s items for sale, not available here short of the $30,000 a year VIP program. I advise you to set aside $200 and get external hosting, software from WordPress.org for free, and a custom domain name and nice theme designed for this purpose. -
So, I CAN use my given blog, as is, to sale personally owned or made items which are legal for me to sell? It would just contain ads and the .wordpress.com url unless I upgrade. Is this correct?

to sale personally owned or made items which are legal for me to sell?
No. You can ONLY sell items you yourself create. Selling other items is banned here.

To be more specific, we are planning to LEGALLY sell animals raised, and in some cases, harvested, here on our farm, and farm-related services. I can’t figure out whether this is acceptable by wordpress rules. Hence my confusion. I certainly don’t want to lose years worth of bloggin because I offer the wrong item for sell. Can someone please advise?

Thank you for all your help, raincoaster. I want to make sure I am following all rules, and farm items never quite make it on either the “can” or “can’t” lists! :-)
-
Specifically what items? Livestock should be fine, but selling, for instance, tractors or farm equipment that you yourself do not make is not allowed.
-
We are a grass-based livestock farm, planning to sell livestock, meats, produce, home-made products such as lotions, creams, soaps, etc., and offer services such as farm-related events, horse-drawn carriage rides, and farming classes. A bit of a variety of farm-related sales.
-
Oh, and to clarify, these are not animals being sold as part of “livestock trading”, rather, these are animals we breed or purchase as babies, and raise (usually for meat) before selling.

I think that your plans are fine. Just please note that we do not offer any ecommerce options (like a shopping cart) at this time, so you will either need to use PayPal buttons or arrange for alternate payment, which may make sense anyway, since it’s difficult to put a cow in the mail. :)
