Making Blog Posts Full-Width

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

    Does anyone know if it is possible to customize a blog post to be full-width, like you can with a page?

    I’m using the Chronicle Theme, and my blog is chasingpisces.com.

    Thanks very much,
    Joe

    Hi Joe, are you talking about single post pages, such as https://chasingpisces.com/2017/07/27/great-white-north/? If so, we would have to remove one or both sidebars from the single post pages. Is that what you are wanting to do?

    Looking at your about page, I see you have used line breaks and shortened the lines in the content area on that page, so they aren’t full width.

    For readability, it is best to keep text lines at 750px or narrower generally since longer lines mean that the reader’s eye may have trouble moving from line to line in the content.

    Hi thesacredpath,

    Thanks very much for your reply. That’s exactly what I’m trying to do. Is it possible?

    Thanks for your tips on page readability, although I’m not sure how I set the text lines. I’m still in beginner’s mode on customizing my theme. Can you explain how to adjust this as well?

    Thanks again,
    Joe

    Joe, let’s start with this, which removed the left sidebar and widens the main content area and see what you think.

    .singular .sidebar-small {
      display: none;
    }
    .singular .main-content {
      width: 75%
    }

    Hi thesacredpath,

    That is awesome! Worked perfectly and I love it. The right sidebar doesn’t seem as intrusive without the left one boxing in the content.

    Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out. I’m in your debt.

    Joe

    You are welcome, Joe, and I thought that too when I removed it. More breathing space for the content. :)
