Making blogs listed on homepage appear side by side rather than top to bottom?

    The examples provided in themes such as Carmack and Ixion show blogs with images underneath the header, and lined up next to each other. But, when I customize these themes there is not an option to make them appear that way. They all line up vertically from top to bottom. How do I make them appear side by side?

    Tag the three posts you want to feature as “featured”, then in the customizer’s “Featured content” tab put the tag name as “featured”. Voila.
