making categories appear on the menu

I want to create a photography blog / website. I would like there to be an About section, contact section, and then a People section, places section, and things section. I am wanting to make People, Places, and Things ongoing blogs. I am guessing they need to be categories but I am not sure. I cannot figure out how to get those to show up across the top for others to click on.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes I would recommend that you should make categories for People, Places and Things and then categorise your posts in the appropriate one.
To get them across the top you’ll need to add the categories to a custom menu and set that to be the menu your theme uses.
    Creating a custom menu: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
The menu can contain your About and Contact pages as well as the categories.
    Hope that helps :)

okay… I have that down now… thank you!

Now when I am posting things in my categories just the title is showing… How can I get the image to appear as well without having to click on the title of the image? :)

Also, how do I create a Home page so that I can go back to the main screen when I first get to the site?

Sorry I missed your replies. It looks like you have got the pictures showing now – did you set a featured image?

Your home page at the moment is your latest blog posts – is that what you wanted? If you want to change it to show a static page, you can set that in the Customizer
