Making media library items private or password protected

I know that a page can be made password protected. this would allow the creation of a page whose content can only be seen when a viewer enters the password. However is there any way to protect the content of the page where the content is a link to say a pdf document stored in the media library if the content of that file was confidential? My assumption is that there is not and that once an item is placed in the Media Library it becomes available to all once they know the url path to it. The only alternative I can think of is to have the confidential material held on a site which is made private and only open to invitees. So there could be a link put on the public site to direct to the private site and when clicked the user would be brought to the private site where they would be asked for their log in and password.

    Any advice gratefully received.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    HI there,

Your assumptions are correct. If you upload files to a public blog the files will be viewable to the public via that direct link. However, if you upload them to a private site, it won’t be viewable.

So, the alternative that you mentioned would be the way to go.

Let me know if you have any questions with this!
