Making Money | Monetizing Your Blog
-
Hi fellow WordPressers!
I would like to start monetizing my blog–making money off views/ads/etc. Can this be done on wordpress.com or do I need to use wordpress.org?
Also, can you sell things on WordPress.com? Or do you usually use some type of widget that links you to another host?
I would love your insight!

You cannot post advertising on your blog here at WordPress.com. There is only one advertising program called WordAds at WordPress.com and it’s for blogs on their own domains. Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds http://www.wordads.co/ no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.com blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com. Paid content and/or sponsored content is not allowed.

http://en.wordpress.com/tos/On free hosted WordPress.com blog we can use a contact form and/or a PayPal button for sale of only products or services created or provided by ourselves.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/There is no upgrade you can purchase from WordPress.com that changes any of that. If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising, affiliate links, paid or sponsored content you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org
Refer to > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/No content is lost. You hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up a WordPress.org install. Then you export your content out of the WordPress.com site and import it into the WordPress.org site.

If you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers.

Hi
In a scenario where I purchase domain mapping (from wordpress) and map my wordpress.com blog to a registered domain… can I use adsense on my blog?
-
No. When you purchase a domain nothing changes except the URL. Domains – Important Notes Before Upgrading

Thanks Timethief. So even if I own a premium account with wordpress I cannot have adsense on my blog, I can only have wordads. Is my understanding correct?
-
If and only if you blog is accepted into the WordAds program then that program may include some Google Adsense ads placed on your blog by Staff. However, you cannot initiate any advertising of any kind whatsoever on your blog. Moreover, and if you think Google Adsense is a big payout forget that.
