making my categories more user friendly

    For example my Travel page. It is not user friendly in that you have to scroll through Seattle inorder to see my Kentucky post. The only way I know how to do my categories are to simply add on to the post that is the category. There must be a better way to do this? Please help.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    There is nothing on your travel page. It returns a 404 error.

    You have NO categories. Everything on your blog is filed under “uncategorized.”

    You have messed up code in your sidebar (I base this on the fact that every page and/or post on your site exhibits the same issue).

    First thing to do, burn the facebook thing in your sidebar since it is broken anyway. Remove it from your sidebar. The facebook “like” widget won’t work here and will just crash your blog.

    Next, go to settings > reading and decrease the number of posts to show on pages to something like 3. With your image heavy site, it takes forever to load and people simply don’t have that much patience. They will hit the back button and go elsewhere.

    OK, your travel page is now back up.

    Don’t put multiple entries on a PAGE. Make them posts and then assign the posts to appropriate categories like “Seattle” or “Kentucky” or whatever. Pages are not meant for tons of stuff simply because of what you have found out. People can then find things about Kentucky or Seattle or Mozambique by clicking on those category names in the categories widget, or if you wish, use a theme that supports custom menus and then you can put those categories into the top menu.

    OK, the problem seems to be in your latest post rather than in your sidebar, but the facebook thing is broken at any rate.

    Go to settings > writing and select “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then click “save changes.”

    Now, starting with your latest post, open it in the editor, make one minor change such as adding a space and then deleting it, and then click “update post.” Check your blog and if it is back to normal, you are golden. If not, open the next post and do the same thing till it goes back to normal.

    You might also want to check out the more tag which will let you display a section of your post on the main page so people can click through to read/view the rest. This will also decrease your page load time which will stop visitors (like me!) being driven away.

    @pickledpig
    From what I can see you do not understand the differences between pages and posts and how to use them properly. TSP has provided you withe links that will clarify. hallluke gas also provided a useful link. Here’s alink to an article that goes into greater depth regarding the effect of choosing to create a page structured blog, rather than a post structured blog.
