Making my post public

    Hey to anyone seeing this. Whilst writing up my blog post over the course of the week, I had my visibility status as ‘private’. Now I’d like to change the status to Public and it refuses to go back to Public.

    Any assistance will be greatly appreciated

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    @zanepierre,

    Hmm, what happens when you try to change the status?

    It *should* be changeable under “Post Settings” in the upper right menu. Select “Status” and “Revert to draft” first.
    Then try resetting it to public (or it might reset to public by default when you revert it to a draft.)

    Try that and see if that helps?

    Hi there,

    If zanepierre.wordpress.com is the site you are referring to then it seems like you figured it out, as your site is set to public. I am able to view it.

    Hi there,

    This is a bug on our end – at the moment it’s not possible to set a private post to public from the My Sites editor, but you should be able to do it from the editor in the WP-Admin dashboard:

    I also want to add that when you’re still writing a post, and it’s an unpublished draft, no one but you can see it, so you don’t actually need to set it to private at this point. The Private option is for published posts that you only want visible to admins on the site, not to hide “work in progress” posts, as they’re invisible anyway until published.

    Just an update, the bug has been fixed, so you should now be able to change a post from private to public again without reverting it to draft first.
