making the header link back to the home page…can i change html?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I have an image as the header on my blog and I was wondering if there’s a way that I could make it so you can click on it and it’ll take you back to my blog’s home page. I know html I just don’t know how to edit it or if it’s possible. Hopefully you know :)

    Thanks in advance!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nickname to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We can’t help without that.

    “We can’t help without that.”

Why would you need to physically see the blog to answer a yes or no question? That just seems unnecessary… Anywho, this isn’t a definitive answer, since I run my own servers and I’m just on here as of recent to try and help some friends who have wordpress.com hosted blogs, but I would have to say no, sorry, there doesn’t seem to be a way to do that. Nothing intuitive anyways… you can modify CSS (based on a subscription system of sorts) and you can modify the header graphic itself, at least in some themes that include them, but there’s no way to link it or add HTML to the themes header file.

I know this wasn’t the answer you were looking for, so hopefully somebody can tell us otherwise!

@mwaterous, if they are hosted here there is no way to do it. If they have a self-hosted blog using the software from wordpress.ORG, then it is possible.

This forum is for those hosted here at wordpress.COM and there are restrictions here that do not apply to self-hosted wordpress blogs, and at times fully a third of the questions posted here are from people in the wrong forum. Would you have us just “assume” they were hosted here and possibly give them the wrong answer and waste their time and the time of the volunteers, your would you rather we determined if they were in the right forum first to save them and us time?

@mwaterous: Yes we can’t help without that; first because, as tsp says, we get a lot of wrong visits from wp.ORG members (our answers won’t apply to them, and they must be directed to the wp.org forum); second because for many questions (including this one) we need to see which theme the OP is using, what s/he has done, and whether there’s something s/he doesn’t know. You may think that this is a “yes or no question”, but you’re not right. You may think there’s no html solution, but again you’re not right.

Gotcha! That makes sense, for some reason I was assuming that she had specified that it was hosted here, which is also why I assumed the answer was a simple one. But we all know what they say about ‘assume’ and I think I just adequately proved it! :D

Many, many people specify that their blogs are hosted here and it turns out they are not. If we go to the blog and see the Admin bar on the page, there’s no ambiguity. Saves much time.

Apologies…I had assumed that my username linked back to my blog automatically, my fault for not reading the 8 things to know before posting.

    my blog is at: http://struckbyenlightning.wordpress.com

With the theme you are using, if you hide the blog title text, there is no link back to the main page. Your only two choices are to use another theme where the header image is the link, or to put a home page link in a text widget at the top of your sidebar.

  • Unknown's avatar

By the way, the “blog” tab in your top navigation takes you to the home page from any other page.

  • Unknown's avatar

Exactly – that’s no “by the way”! The theme has a built-in home tab, so it’s absolutely pointless to want the whole header as a home link as well.

(But it can be done with html.)

@linzeebinzee, you have to make that link to your username by entering your blog URL in your user profile. Check out #2 on this post https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/7-things-to-know-before-posting-in-wordpresscom-forums?replies=1
