Making the Switch Question that Noone Has Ever Answered

I’m thinking of switching from .com to .org with WordPress with Domain Mapping. My question is, if I do that, is it still the .com software? or is it now an official .org account, meaning that I can change the themes, upload files, use flash players, google ads, etc? I cant find the answer to this anywhere! PLEASE, my forum friends, what do I need to do to get my .com to a .org account without losing all of my readers??

Domain mapping your blog doesn’t change the restrictions here at wp.com. If you want the freedom, you need to buy a domain name, choose a hosting company, download and install the wp.org software.

org and com are two different animals.

Answered? It’s a sticky thread at the head of the forums.

Once you change domain name, you will lose readers. That’s why it’s important to do it as soon as possible; so that you lose from a smaller absolute number, and build on your new name.
