Malware security problem

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,
Im having a malware problem with a wordpress.com site, specifically: femibici.wordpress.com

Ive actually migrated the posts to a self hosted wp on nad-ege.net/femibici but I the domain redirection (femibici.org) cant propagate until I fix the malware problem on the wordpress.com site, according to godaddy technicians.

What Im wondering is if I can delete my wordpress.com site all together. Im not interested in maintaining it as I now have the self hosted wp site.

    Thanks in advance

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @femibici,

It looks like the domain femibici.org is now pointed to a self-hosted site. Were you able to get this worked out? If not, could you let me know where you’re seeing the malware warning? If this is working correctly now, would you like me to remove the domain mapping upgrade for femibici.org on your site femibici.wordpress.com so you don’t have to continue paying for this upgrade?

Hi @jeremeydulvall. Yes, now the domain is pointing to a self hosted wp. Could you please remove the domain mapping?

    Thank you very much

Done! I’ve removed the upgrade from your account.

Hi. I seem to have a similar problem, but I’m not sure. Bing just notified me that some of my posts (urls) have malware and I have to clean up my site before people can view the pages. Site is withchristianeyes.net. This is the first time this has come up for me, so not really sure what to do. However, I have started to scan the infected urls with Web Inspector (Comodo) and every page has come up clean. Once the pages/my site is cleaned up, I can ask Bing for a review, but, it seems odd that Bing would report malware on these pages but the Web Inspector isn’t finding anything. Is there some other way to scan for Malware and remove it? I’d be very appreciative for the help! Thanks.

    Hi @withchristianeyes,

Can you point me to a URL of a post that Bing is pointing out as having malware? Also, could you grab a screenshot of the warning from Bing and upload it here?

Hi Jeremy. Thanks so much for responding. I uploaded a screen shot to that link, which is my own media library. That’s what you meant? Besides my home page url they said had Malware, here’s another: http://withchristianeyes.net/2014/04/12/garden-warfare-pvz-gameplay-hosting-false-flowers-and-that-bomb-carrying-gnome/ I checked with Google webmaster tools and they aren’t finding anything wrong, either. But I have to get whatever it is cleaned up for Bing to reinstate my site in their engine.

    Hi @withchristianeyes,

Thanks for passing these along! I checked with Google (just searching and moving around the page), but I didn’t receive any errors or malware warnings. I think the best path forward would be to first setup Bing Webmaster Tools (if you haven’t already):

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/#bing-webmaster-center

Then, try to address the areas that Bing is referencing. According to this document of theirs, it looks like they should provide you with a reference of exactly what they’re seeing in the warning. Can you try clicking/hovering over the “I” under Additional Details in your screenshot here?

From what I’ve read, that should provide you with a detailed list of exactly what they’re seeing wrong. If you aren’t sure how to remove one of the items they mention, just let me know specifically what item they mention. I’ll try to help out as much as possible!

Then, once we address the issues, we’ll need to ask for your site to be reviewed again as explained here:

    Hi Jeremy,

Yes, the site is signed up with Bing webmaster already. You know, I went to that more detailed page after I saw what the problem was that they indicated with the URLs. But it says the same exact thing without giving me any more help (I went to Google webmaster and read some things there instead!). This is the problem for every url, according to Bing:

“Reference to known malware distribution network detected. This could be via inclusion of an iframe or frame tag, an embedded object, or a script tag.” And from what it says prior to that, “Malware reference found on the page: the issue is present on a resource linked or associated with the page.”

So, while I’m not techi, I went through a lot of comments and removed some of them, and some urls associated with some, I checked every “blog roll” link and every link to blogs I follow. As far as I can tell, not any of them have a Malware problem. I use Comodo and when there’s an issue with a page like that, it normally tells me anyhow (when I’m doing my own searching and reading of various sites – I indeed get warnings from Comodo).

So, really, I have no idea what Bing has a problem with. Could it be any ads that WordPress has? Seems doubtful, right? I have a Twitter feed – could it have to do with that? I have no idea, and if they count that as part of my page, then this kind-of problem could be continuous.

For the review, they say you have to make sure your site is cleaned up. Well, nothing indicates I have a problem, so I’d like to ask them to check the site themselves. If nothing’s there, great, but if there is something that no other source is picking up, they should tell me plainly what they’re seeing.

The only thing I didn’t check are the couple of images that are in widgets, which are linked to Photobucket. I’ll check those, but it seems doubtful they’d have Malware attached to them. Otherwise, I have no clue what else to do. If they won’t accept my request for a review, then I’m basically screwed with (or by?) Bing. Lol.

Thanks so much for your help. It’s a strange thing, since no other program or engine is picking up a problem (thank God).

You know what, Bing is strange. I went back to look on the page with my Malware warning, and it’s gone. The message is still there from yesterday, but, without submitting a review they cleared all my urls. It says there are no Malware issues. Did you have anything to do with that? =D Maybe THEY were having issues, lol. Thanks so much for your help, in any case; seems like it was a waste of time . . .

    Hi!

Without submitting a review they cleared all my urls. It says there are no Malware issues. Did you have anything to do with that?

I don’t I’m afraid! Either way, I’m glad you were able to get this cleared up. If you need anything else, let me know!
