Manage Payment Method for Domain Connection

    Hello, I need help managing a payment method for a domain connection. Currently, the domain connection shows the following error:

    ‘This product was purchased by a different WordPress.com account. To manage this product, log in to that account or contact the account owner.’

    However, we no longer have access to the original account owner. Not only that, but we want to change our domain connection from ‘mckinneyrunningclub.com’ to ‘mckinneyrunningclub.org’.

    Hi there!

    Only the account owner can transfer (or authorize us to transfer) the domain connection to your account. Due to security reasons, we can’t do that without their permission.

    Is it possible for you to contact the account owner and have them log into their account and follow the steps here? Alternatively, they can also log in and reply in this forum thread, authorizing us to transfer the domain connection to your account.

    We are not sure who the account owner is, are you able to look and see that information?

    Hi there,

    We’re not able to share that info for security reasons, but it is one of the admins you see listed here: https://wordpress.com/people/team/mckinneyrunningclub.com

    You could try contacting those folks if you are able, or perhaps seeing that will help you to guess who it might be. To change the existing subscription would require the involvement of the current upgrade holder, where we can walk them through how to transfer ownership of the current subscriptions to you.

    Since you mentioned that you are interested in changing the site address, another option would be to add a new domain under your account and then switch the site address, which you are also able to do as an admin. Is mckinneyrunningclub.org a domain you already own with Google Domains? I noticed it is already set up as a redirect with them.

    If so you can upgrade the site to our Personal Plan, which will allow you to connect a new domain (mckinneyrunningclub.org) to the site, so you can change the address. Additionally the plan will provide a private email support option for instances where you prefer not to post in our public forums:

    After you upgrade, let us know and we can walk you through connecting mckinneyrunningclub.org so that it can be the new address of the site and we can confirm mckinneyrunningclub.com is redirecting correctly.
