Managed to add categories as sub-items to my menu –

    Hey everyone!

So I had a q about the menu configuration for my food blog…I wanted to create a drop-down menu so people visiting the site can browse recipes by categories (‘breakfast’, ‘lunch & dinner’, …).

Therefore, I created the above-mentioned categories and put them as ‘sub-items’ in my primary menu using ‘Customizer’. However, they’re not actually visible on the site.

So I tried, using the ‘Editor’ function, to create a drop down menu for the ‘Recipes’ page (which is one of the items of my menu), and add the categories there….but I can only add pages/links as items for the drop-down list. What should I do? Or do people usually create new ‘pages’ for each recipe category?

I just started using WordPress and am very confused, sorry for the probably dumb qs! I hope you guys can help me. Don’t hesitate to ask me Qs if I wasn’t clear! Thank you so much in advance for your help :)

Hi there, I have checked under Appearance > Editor in templates for the header and footer only template, and do not see any submenu items added to Recipes.

I do see that you have three categories created, All, Dips & Spreads, and Sin categoria. Only all and Dips & Spreads have a post assigned to them. Categories without any posts assigned will not show up on the site since they would lead to a 404 not found page, which is not good for Search Engines.

I would suggest adding a few more posts, to some additional new categories, and then you can follow the instructions in this support page section to add those categories as submenu items off of your Recipes top-level menu item.
