Managing Authors?
-
Hi all,
I’m a new user trying to learn how to manage authors. Looked at the online manual, couldn’t find much. I have questions like this…
1) How and where do I indicate the author of an article?
2) If I want to create a profile for an author I should just use a page for that?
3) How would I manage multiple authors? For example, could I give someone permission to publish within a limited section of the site? You know, they could publish and edit their articles, but not touch anything else.
If this is all discussed in detail somewhere I’d be happy to receive a link and read what’s already been written about author management.
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @nukeban,
1) How and where do I indicate the author of an article?
Your theme usually handles this automatically. Are you running into trouble with it? if so, can you send a link to an affected post?
2) If I want to create a profile for an author I should just use a page for that?
You could, sure. Just know WordPress automatically compiles an archive of an author’s posts, too. And, if they use Gravatar, they can keep their profile up to date there. Then you could add a widget to their posts, or they could insert a profile using a block.
3) How would I manage multiple authors? For example, could I give someone permission to publish within a limited section of the site? You know, they could publish and edit their articles, but not touch anything else.

Hi there,
Thanks for the link to the manual page, very helpful. I get the overall picture now.
Here’s a simple question. All the articles I’ve published list the author as “nukeban”, which is linked to a blog feed for that author. Where in the interface would I change the displayed author’s name from “nukeban” to my real name?
Have a great holiday!

Is this the answer? Do I need to use Manage/People to invite myself to be an author? And then somehow select that author when publishing an article?

Hi! So, you can change your display name for this account at
https://wordpress.com/meIf you want to have a nukeban account AND a separate account for you personally, then yes I would go ahead and add a second author. Honestly, I’d just go ahead and add the second account as an administrator, in fact, since they’re both you. Just be sure you’re using secure practices (logging out of public computers, making sure you don’t lose access to either email, keeping account recovery info up to date, etc.)
Enjoy your weekend and the holidays! Our staffing is a bit reduced until the new year, but we’ll still have someone online most days, so if you have other questions, feel free to ask.

Ah, thanks for the link to the WordPress/me page, didn’t know about that.
Yea, staff should take the week off, agreed. No worries about any schedule, answer when you can. My site’s not even public, and so far I have exactly no readers, so there won’t be any crisis between now and the New Year. :-)
2020. Geez. Seems only 2 months ago that it was 1967.

Doesn’t it? Or at least the 80s don’t seem very long ago for me.
Our staff is taking turns checking in just to make sure nothing’s on fire. We’ll help where we can. And then once the new year hits, we’ll be back to full staff again.
Cheers, Nukeban!
