Managing Blog Posts
-
Hello,
I’m using the Hever theme for my blog ( https://keishojan.wordpress.com/ ). At the moment, when you view the blog page, it lists all the entries in a single column, with the option to load more as you scroll. I was wondering if I could put in some kind of navigation side bar. This would allow visitors to quickly filter posts by subject or date.
I’m using the basic wordpress plan at the moment, so I don’t believe I can use plugins.
Cheers.

Hi there,
There isn’t a sidebar option with the Hever Theme, but you can add widgets such as Archive or Categories in the footer.

https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/categories-widget/If you want a theme with the column/sidebar feature, you can browse a list of them here:

Please take a look at those options and let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,

I managed to get the widget working (and only showing on the blog page), but being in the footer isn’t that helpful. It’s out of the way and misaligned. Just looks kinda sloppy.
I’ve got a bunch of space at the top or to the side of the page that the widget could go, but I don’t see a way to move it.

The spacing can be tightened up with CSS, but that will require a paid Premium plan: https://wordpress.com/support/custom-design/custom-css/

Is it possible to extract the code from the widget and place it on a dedicated page? That way I could have a “Blog Archive” page that would make searching through the blog a bit easier.

Hi there,
There’s no need to extract the code from that widget. You can use the Categories block instead:
