Managing large media library
-
My travel blog consists of a large number of pictures. To insert images to blog post, I usually use the gallery feature.
But when I insert the images through galleries, they don’t get attached to the post. So it’s almost impossble to find unattached images.
When I try to manage the quite huge number of pictures, I am missing more sorting options and more metadata available in edit and library views. I would love to see (and sort by) at least creation date and library number (which is used in galleries). I am missing a list view in the desktop app (and web), too…
Is there a way to get such additional functionality through addons and upgrading from premium to business plan?
Can I attach the images to a post automatically even when using galleries? Is it possible to re-attach them?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
When you create a post and add a Gallery Block, add the images directly from your computer instead of the media library. This way, the images will be attached to the post.
Now as for sorting the files, while you won’t be able to do that from the app, you can use the WP-admin, here:
https://munterwegs.me/wp-admin/upload.php
You’ll see that you can sort the files by date, category, .etc and you’ll be able to bulk edit them to make small changes faster.
Here’s more information about it:
I hope that helps :)

Thanks for your answer.
Uploading images while editing a post would be quite a restriction in my usual mobile workflow (editing posts on a tablet and uploading pictures with my smartphone).
wp-admin does not allow to sort (or search) by item number or creation date, I’m afraid.
I understand now that the standard functionality of managing media is quite limited.

Hi Michael,
WP-Admin by default sorts media files by upload date, but you can also sort by filename if you want to. When you’re in the WP-Admin media library, click the icon at the top to switch from the gallery view to the list view, and you’ll see several columns by which you can sort the files:
https://unterwegs13.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?mode=list
There’s no way to search by photo metadata like the actual file creation date, though, as that information is not logged in the site database when a file is uploaded.
The media search in WP-Admin should return results based on both filename and image title, provided you’ve set a title on an image.
