Managing list of Viewers
-
I am setting up a private blog and want to invite users to view the content. The invite is dependent on membership of a separate program (not managed via WordPress) and so I would like to be able to block individual users if that membership expires. Two questions:
1) Can I access a list of Viewers through the dashboard – they don’t seem to show up in the ‘Users’ list?
2) Is it possible to block Viewers once an invite has been accepted? Many thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. Just to be sure, are you talking about viewers or followers?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#totals-followers-sharesAs reference, these are the instructions to follow to invite someone to view a private blog.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/#invite-people-to-view-your-private-blogA blog owner cannot remove a follower (only followers can do that themselves), however I haven’t seen any place where it says that you cannot remove a viewer.

Hi. I have the same requirement. I need to be able to see a list of the “viewers” to my blog (not “followers”) which I have invited or accepted so that I can manage this category but there does not seem to be anyway of doing this

Please post an active link starting with http:// to your blog so we can provide an appropriate answer. WordPress.com blogs and WordPress.org installs are different and the answers to the same questions are different.
WordPress.com vs WordPress.org: The Differences -
Hi, @timethief
My apologies if I’m going about this the wrong way – new to the game & I’ve not learnt to walk yet {:^]Anyway, here’s the link: http://friendsofpp.wordpress.com
It’s a private site being setup for a group of restoration volunteers. Unfortunately, self-hosting and self-management is not an option so it’s got to be the WP.com route rather than WP.org.
A sub-set of the users will be active participants whilst the rest will be viewers and it’s the membership of this group that needs to be managed – hence the need to see whose in it.
Hope this helps

Raincoaster – I understand that. What I want to do is to keep track of who the viewers are. I think I’ve figured it out a fix now though.
a) “Users -> Invite New” shows a list of
- past invitations
b) “Settings -> Privacy Settings” shows a list of
- current site members
Why don’t Viewers” appear in the list in “Users”. Is there some distinction between passive and active users?

I don’t understand. Do you wish to see exactly who is on your blog at one time? Are you trying to track people you’ve invited who either haven’t accepted or who have left?

Raincaster: I guess the wish list is growing as we speak since I hadn’t thought about seeing/displaying who’s on the blog at any one time. Could be a useful feature.
So the answer to your questions are: yes, yes and yes (+ …..).
My initial requirement was to be able keep track of who had been invited / accepted / activated as “Viewers”. Only about 20% of the members of the volunteer group are Internet enabled (this is England in the 21st century) but it is increasing. In addition, new members join and others leave/die so management of the user-base will be a regular actvity.
The user-base management will be devolved to someone at “Editor” level and it would have been preferable if all the user status info was integrated under “Users->All Users” since this person will probably not have much/any previous experience as a Blogonaut and won’t want to be naffing around chasing the info.
Hope this makes sense.
