Managing Multiple Domains

  • Unknown's avatar

After creating an account on wordpress.com, I purchased two domains to build sites for two separate purposes.

I have already gone live with one. But I can’t use the other one. How can I use the other domain to build a separate site?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. Did you buy the two domains from the same site’s dashboard? Then both domains are pointing to the same blog at this point.

You need to register a second free WordPress.com address for the other blog, and then staff can transfer the domain over to that WordPress.com blog for you.

Please let us know both the domain you want to use for the other blog, and the WordPress.com URL of that blog.

    Hey,

Thanks a lot of the reply.

I did buy both the domains form the same site’s dashboard.

I created a second wordpress blog at https://imschennaionline.wordpress.com/

I want to use the domain imschennai.in with the blog.

    Thanks,

    Tony

  • I’ve tagged this for staff to follow up for you. Please be patient while waiting for their reply.

    Hi Tony,

I just moved your domain imschennai.in to your site imschennaionline.wordpress.com. You should see that change soon when you visit your domain: http://imschennai.in/

If you ever need to move your domains around in the future, you can also do that from your My Upgrades page, using the link “Transfer to another site” under your domain name there.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

I wasn’t aware the upgrade transfer worked for custom domains as well. I’ll remember next time, thanks.

@kokkieh — Sounds good! Thanks for all your help. :) That transfer should work for any upgrade, unless someone is trying to transfer a premium theme that’s still active on their site. (You have to switch to a different theme before moving a premium theme away from a site that was using it.) Of course it’s no problem for staff to help out if there are any questions/concerns.
