Managing my existing podcast on WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello.

I have an existing podcast which is on WordPress.org Premium with a feed on feedburner. I upgraded to Premium under the mistaken impression that it would allow me some control over my feed, but it does not.

I think the best thing for me to do would be to move over to WordPress.org – probably something I should have done a long time ago – but I have a few questions before I go ahead with that.

    * Every guide I find tells me about how I can move my hosting. I don’t want to move my hosting, I have already paid to host the site at WordPress, why should I migrate the files when I am using the same hosting company?

    * Alternatively, if there is any way to manage my RSS without paying hundreds of pound – or actually anything at all, I have paid plenty already – that would also be good.

    * My site has very delicate easy-to-break HTML frames in the design, you can have a look at how they work. Will moving to WordPress.org break these? From experience any changes in the site can break the entire layout.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

I get the sense there’s a bit of confusion going on, so I’m hoping this helps.

There are two types of WordPress. WordPress.com, and self-hosted WordPress.

Self-hosted WordPress, is where the free open source software is downloaded from WordPress.org and installed on a hosting provider.

The two WordPress sites would be considered separate.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

What is it you’re looking to do exactly?

This would depend on the theme in use.

To go self-hosted, and to move content, this would be done by exporting the content: https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and then importing it via WP Admin > Tools > Import – at the installation at the other hosting company.

    I hope this helps.
