Managing the Translation of Dates

    I’ve noticed that the dates – names of months and the format itself of presenting a date is cumbersome, inconsistent and at times incomprehensible in the Chuvash translation.
    There are no tools that I know of that would allow me to fix them.

    Example:

    • Ҫулхи ҫур уйӑхӗн 7-мӗшӗ at 12:04

    – Ҫулхи “of the year of” is redundant and non grammatical here (the noun çул has determiner affix -и which suggests a determiner phrase, but the reference is absent, so it is confusing), or must be changed to Kăçалхи “of current year”, or in the least to still awkward but at least grammatical Çулăн “of the year”.

    – In ҫур уйӑхӗн “of the month of çур” ҫур is a contraction of çурла “August”. The problems are: 1 – why is there a contraction if the whole phrase is just super long anyway (shortening a 25 character phrase by 2 is pointless). 2 – To any casual Chuvash speaker this is incomprehensible, because not only can çур can suggest a variety of other meanings in this context ‘spring’, ‘half’, but also because another date ‘2020 ҫулхи май уйӑхӗн 18-мӗшӗ’ uses май ‘May’, but from a parallel system of naming months (Yes, there are two, one which employs Russian names, and the other that uses Chuvash names). Even, being aware of the problem, I can’t help being unsure about that date.

    I would like to know where this date presentation format comes from. And how can it be fixed?
