Managing the width of the content area

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello everybody,
From what I understand, freebie only have 3 options to manage the width of the content: None, Wide width and Full width. Is there any way to change the margin-right and margin-left in pixel? Or is the option to do so only available with a premium plan?
    Cheers

  • The available widths actually depend on the theme you choose, but with the Premium Plan, you can fully customize it.

I’m using a blank template, building from scratch.
So the only way to control it is to have a premium plan?

    Hi there!

Can you tell us more about what exactly you’re going for?

With the WordPress.com Premium plan, you get access to custom CSS which can be used to modify the visual elements of the site (such as the width, positioning, color, etc. of different elements).

Custom CSS can get pretty complex very fast, so we have outlined a scope of support for how much help you can expect from us with CSS code. You can read about it here: https://wordpress.com/support/css-support/

If you’re familiar with CSS (or if you work with a developer), you can use more advanced CSS code on your site. But I just wanted to clarify that while we can help you with the CSS code if you upgrade to the Premium plan or higher, our scope of CSS support is limited.

Having said that, please tell us more about what kind of layout/design you’re going for and we can check to see if there’s another way to achieve that without needing custom CSS code.

    Regards

Thank you for your reply alsajib.
The thing is I wonder wether I can have more control over the margin instead of sticking to only 3 options (none, full-width and wide-width). I also have no plan to subscribe to the premium plan so I can’t edit the additional css (I have experience in css). It is okay if I can’t do that with the free plan, I just want to try just in case.

  • On the free plan you only have the alignment options available in the block toolbar for individual blocks, and how those settings work in practice is further determined by the particular theme you’re using.

For more fine-grained control, custom CSS on the premium plan is the only option.
