Managing Users
-
If I invite users as editors or contributors to my private blog, and I have other blogs that are public on the same account, will these users be able to make changes to my public blogs, too? Or do they only have access to the private blog? Can I do something to let them contribute to the private blog and block access to the public blogs? Thank you
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Irene,
Yes, you’ve got the right idea. User access to any blog is controlled on a “per blog” level. So when you grant someone access to any of your sites (even Administrator access), they will only be able to access that site, regardless of how many other sites you own or have access to.
So, by doing exactly what you described (adding editors and contributors to the private blog), you will prevent anyone from having access to your public blogs.
If there’s anything else I can help with.

I do have another question – if I want each PAGE of a blog with multiple pages to be private, do I have to have a password for each page, or just the home page? All posts are going to the home page only.

Each page that you want to keep private will need to be marked as such. However, since you have marked the entire site as private, no one can access it, except for those that you specifically specify in Settings > Reading, so there is no sense in duplicating effort by marking each post/page as private as well, since they already are, by virtue of the entire site being private.

What if someone knows the exact url of an unprotected page and they were never invited? What if someone was un-invited and they typed in the exact url of an unprotected page? Sorry to bug you with details.

Irene,
On each page load, WordPress checks whether a user should be logged in to view the content they are trying to see. If the content is private, they will instead be redirected to a login page, so even if the user knows the URL of any or all of your protected pages, they are still safe, because the user would have to be an invited user to be able view the content.
Hope that clarifies things, but feel free to ask any and all questions you may have :) Want to make sure that you have the site that meets your needs.
