Mandarin Chinese Fonts

  hey there, my Client is wondering if it is possible to load Mandarin Chinese Fonts in wordpress.com. Couldn’t find any info on that.

  You can change the language setting from your Site Settings page. The following support document has more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/language-settings/

  hi thabotswana,

  thank you for the fast response.
  My question is: How do I handle Mandarin Chinese Text(Characters) on a WordPress.com hosted site? Can I change the font of those characters? how about mixing it with western type fonts?

  Hi Manuel,

  Unfortunately, you cannot add fonts from outside of WordPress.com. What we have available is at Customize > Fonts. Unfortunately the number of web fonts that have Chinese characters in them is limited.

  I’m not sure if you can mix fonts. I am going to add the tag “modlook” to this thread so that staff can assist you.

  Hi Manuel,

  If you set the site language to Mandarin Chinese, it should automatically show those characters regardless of the font your theme is using. We don’t have any specific fonts for Mandarin, but most of our fonts should support Mandarin characters. We are currently working on adding support for more non-latin alphabets.

  The only way to change fonts is via the Fonts tab in the Customizer. It’s not possible to import your own fonts. You could theoretically use custom CSS to assign a web-font to your theme, but if you do that be sure to still set the theme’s regular font as a fallback, otherwise it won’t work for people whose operating system or browser might not support the particular font.
