Manifest theme: animated gifs

  I’m using the Manifest theme and would like to post animated gifs. The problem is that the gifs only animate when I am using the “image” post format; in any other format (including standard) the gif will show up as a static image (not a resizing issue). However, when using the image format, there are no post titles and it is difficult to have formatted text in conjunction with the image. Essentially, I’d like to work out how to either:

  1. have gifs animate in standard posts (my preference)
  2. or alter the image format to allow post titles and a bit more text
