Manual table of contents links not working, anchor issues (HTML or YoastSEO)
-
Hello all,
I’ve been struggling with table of contents anchors. Some work perfectly but others (like my FAQ section) won’t scroll at all when clicked.
I’m running WordPress 6.8.2 and have tried different HTML anchor formats (#h-faq, #faq, etc.) and tried YoastSEO’s automatic TOC block. Some sections work while others are completely unresponsive.
Has anyone encountered anchor behavior like this? Any advice appreciated!

Hello,
Can anyone help me or has experience with this issue? I’ve tried everything and nothing seems to help. I keep facing the same issue that the anchor scroll works on some anchors but not on others, despite using the identical setup. (#h- or just #). Here’s the page in question, you’ll see that the first three won’t scroll:

Any help / advice appreciated. I would even try a different plugin if someone can suggest.

Hey, @peter3ee11610a9. I checked your first link and all the items worked for me. I’m assuming it’s because you’re using the Table of Contents block, which automatically create the anchors for you.
As for your FAQ page, I see you have a custom template for it where you manually listed the links on your sidebar. What I think is happening is that your site is considering those separate links, thus reloading the page.
I see two possible suggestions:
- On your FAQ template, replace the current links with just a reference to the anchor. Example, instead of linking to
https://bigfatgreekday.com/greek-destination-wedding-planning-faq#legal-requirements, use only#legal-requirementsas the link. - Instead of using manual links there, replace them all with the TOC block I mentioned above.
Let me know how it goes!
Also, please note that you have priority support with your current plan. You can always contact us directly here. :)

Thank you for the reply. Adding the TOC block helped and it worked. I’m not sure why it didn’t work previously. I appreciate the help!
