Manually Adding a Facebook Pixel
-
Hello, I’m using the Hever theme and would like to add a facebook pixel to my home page.
Every time I paste the pixel code, it either breaks the page or changes the code. The facebook business manager tells me there is no active pixel, but tracks each time I view the home page (it refuses to let me set events because it believes there is no pixel, despite the reports it gives me).I have turned my ad-blocker and pop-up blocker off while doing this.

Hi there – are these the instructions you’re following?

Does anyone know how to access the code for an existing pixel or do I have to create a new one?
-
Hello again, Since you said you pasted the code you had, I assume you had the code you need already? The only part of that code you can use is the non-script portion, which even if the other part was stripped out might remain in your Page?
Otherwise, I found this in FB’s documentation https://www.facebook.com/business/help/952192354843755?id=1205376682832142 If that doesn’t answer your question, I suggest contacting FB.

Okay I’ve got my widget with my code in it (just the code that wordpress allows), but the name of the widget appears on the page. I just want the code functionality without changing the look of my page.
There are options to hide the widget on specific pages, so I’ll using that. However, I don’t know if that will prevent the widget working or just hide the widget from view. I don’t understand why there isn’t an ‘always hidden’ check box.

I am also interested in knowing how to set up appropriate cookie consent scripts, so visitors can choose whether or not their information is collected by the pixel. It’s a bit strange that facebook doesn’t tell you before you set up the pixel that this is required to be compliant with EU law.
I just need something simple to pop up along the bottom or top of the screen, asking the visitor if they consent.

Hello,
To add the GDPR notice you would need to have an upgraded hosting plan. Below is a link to the page within the documentation on adding this widget.

Hmm, that link says:
“The privacy banner will automatically display on sites utilizing our no-cost hosting plan, since they display advertisements in order to keep that part of the service free. ”But I guess this is only for wordpress cookies and doesn’t apply to the data collected by a facebook pixel.
At the moment, my site is just a blog, but it may one day have a page for purchasing the card game I am working on. Would the personal plan suit my needs best?

I’ll let a staff member answer a bit more definitively as I don’t have too much experience in the Payment options available between plans (As I know Personal does allow payments, but I’m not sure about the specifics for it).
However, my personal opinion is that it would be more worthwhile to go for a premium plan if you’re going to be selling a product on the site given the ability to have “Pay with PayPal” and the Google Analytics Integration would provide you with information that is absolutely priceless when it comes to selling a product.
Also with the Pay with Paypal option, it would allow you to gain access to shipping discounts without paying an extra monthly fee, etc. (compared to other shipping partner options).
Again this is just my two cents. ;)

Hello again, yes, by default the Cookie and Consent banner is enabled on all free websites due to the advertising that WPcom displays on free sites.
I’d also suggest reading https://wordpress.com/support/your-site-and-the-gdpr/ as a start.
At the very least, you’ll want to add a Privacy policy on your site to explain what metrics you’re using on your site if you do something beyond the general WPcom cookies and metrics and what you do with that information. There are links to examples in the above guide.
As to what Upgrade plan you might consider going forward, the pricing page also gives a good outline what comes with each plan. https://wordpress.com/pricing/
And when you have a plan on your site, you’ll also be able to request a DPA from Automattic. https://wordpress.com/support/automattic-gdpr/data-processing-agreements/
Hope that helps.

Sorry overlooked the question about payments. Have a look at this support guide and come back to us here if you have questions.

@correspondwithjohn Hi, did you intend to tag this thread for Staff attention by adding the modlook tag? It was not tagged when I replied just now.Just a reminder that I am a volunteer and not Staff. :)
-
@justjennifer Ooops… I had meant to put “staff or someone more experienced with the upgraded plans than myself”. I had done that reply shortly before trying to go to bed last night, so I guess what I had in my head didn’t fully get typed out. ;p

No worries, I just wanted to make sure whether you had intended to tag for Staff here and may have overlooked it. And thanks for all your valuable advice, too. :)
