Many Adverts Appearing On One Particular Page

  • Unknown's avatar

I am suddenly seeing many adverts (~8-10) appearing on one particular sub-page of my website, although not on the main page, but this makes the site unusable. Is anyone else having this problem?

My option are to go to a paid plan or migrate to Google – currently favouring the latter!

    Thanks.

    Ian.

Sorry, this is happening; that’s frustrating. Those extra ads are normal on free WordPress.com sites; WordPress.org has a guide explaining this. If you don’t want ads, upgrade to a paid plan. The Personal plan is $4/month and removes ads.

Can you share a link to the page on your WordPress.com site is affected?

Just to clarify a bit what @faisalahammad said, the Annual Personal plan is US$48 paid at checkout, but the Personal plan paid Monthly is US$9/month. This means you’d be paying US$108 for the same plan over the course of a year.

Thanks for your replies @justjennifer / @faisalahammad. The only page I am seeing all the adverts on is:

    https://beatlesinkent.wordpress.com/sevenoaks-walking-guide/

It is the longest page on my small site, but not that long and very recently up to 10 adverts are inserted into the page, which makes it close to unreadable. I don’t have this issue on other pages ont he site.

I am considering paying for the Personal plan, to remove these and I would at least get a proper domain name included, but with a little work there are no cost ad-free options I could port the site to, such as Google Sites. I do like the simple editing tools and layout on WordPress though, which work very well on a mobile phone.

Hello again, here’s the thing. I just visited your page in incognito mode (so logged out) in two different browsers (FF and MSEdge) and no ads appear for me.

Is there any chance you grabbed a screenshot of the ads when you saw them? If so, can you upload the screenshot to your site’s media library and share a link with us?

I’m in the UK and see five adverts inserted between the different paragraphs of that page, which, these days, is about par for the course for free WordPress.com sites. When I refreshed the page I was served three completely different ads. So I tried once more. This time there were four ads. I guess there’s no such thing as a free lunch?!?

I tend to favour posts over pages and over the last couple of years have kept posts short on purpose so they only contain one ad. With infinite scroll then visitors only get one ad at the end of each post before they move to the next item. Although, as I would never say in real life “Other people’s mileage may vary”. A lot depends on where you are for how many and which ads are seen. The main problem is that WordPress.com adverts aren’t very “good”. By that I mean they are neither useful or interesting. “Take a look inside LuLu’s repulsive mansion?” What’s that ad all about? I still don’t want to click on it though! They annoy me mainly often by their repetition. On that page of yours, out of the five ads three of them were identical.

At least you can quickly delete the ads at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks @themagicrobot we definitely have very different experiences when visiting WPcom sites. (It likely has to do with where we are located. When I was in Europe last month, the number of ads on WPcom sites increased significantly.)

Over here in Belgium I only see 4 adverts …
