Many Problems Lately and am Really Upset

  • Unknown's avatar

I just wrote a post about all the problems I have been having for the past month or so. Instead of listing them all here, I am going to leave with you the link to that post. I have not said anything hoping that all these problems would resolve. They have not. I just paid for my premium theme, another year’s worth, so yes I am a paying customer!

    Hi there Amy,

Thanks so much for getting in touch with us. Our team is in the midst of making improvements to the new editor. While we cannot promise that all the features that were in the classic editor will be present once the upgrade is complete, we can assure you that we are working really hard to make sure the user experience is a good one. We definitely want you to enjoy working on your WordPress.com site.

In the meantime, I urge you to use the classic editor, so you may have access to all the functionality you did before the change was made. In #6 of your blog post “rant,” it does sound like you may already be utilizing this.

I will make sure that your complaints are heard and taken into consideration. We really do value your feedback. You never have to hold back from sharing them with us. And you never have to wait until you’re miserable.

Let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks much!

Amy, I had another thought, by the way!

I wasn’t certain if you’ve yet accessed this link:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-post-editor-improvements?replies=8

It displays a list of adjustments/improvements made before the holiday weekend.

    Thanks!

Thank you for your reply. I honestly have been pulling my hair out lately and the last straw was again seeing some of my WP friends in my spam. One of them had reblogged one of my posts, days ago, and I always get back as soon as I can to them to thank them. This time that didn’t happen because I didn’t see them in spam. That broke the donkey’s back.

There are a lot of people who commented on my post regarding all the problems they are having. You might want to take a look. Some are really besides themselves and it is not just about the new editor. Lots of issues with our readers have been noted. I honestly don’t understand how blogs that I do not follow end up in my reader saying I am following, and the blogs I do follow are not in my reader. Granted I follow a lot of blogs, yet my memory is pretty darn sharp giving me an ability to recognize when I see something. And I am positive most of the blogs I do follow are not in my reader and those I am not following are in my reader.

I’ve really worked extremely hard to promote my messages of Love, Peace, Truth and Beauty as well as promoting Petals. When I am tired and pressed for time, which is a lot of the time, and to be having problems with how efficiently WP is being run, it frustrates me to no end. I run my own business from within my own home, plus my blog, and I must be organized or I would be lost. So, if I can be organized and efficient, why not WP?

I LOVE what I do and I LOVE encouraging and helping those who come to Petals. Believe me when I tell you, many WP bloggers are really upset. I really hope these problems get resolved soon.

    Hi again!

If you’d like me to troubleshoot this for you, I am happy to do so. I do need to know 3 sites that your are NOT following that are appearing in your reader, and 3 sites that you ARE following that are not appearing in your reader. Then, I can take a look at why this is occurring.

When you unfollow the sites that are appearing incorrectly in your Reader, do they disappear permanently, or are they still showing up? This is important information for me to have in order to test and improve the situation for you.

I really hope these problems get resolved soon.

We hope so, too. Our developers are working very hard at the moment to make our users happy. Of course, we’re not going to make everyone happy, but we do want to make sure problems are ironed out, and the users’ experience is improved.

It helps us to know when you experience specific glitches. The more specifically you can describe a problematic issue, the better we’re able to explain it to the folks responsible for fixing the trouble.

Thank you again for your note. Looking forward to assisting you with your Reader. All the best.

I truly do not have the time for what you ask me to do. Please read the comments associated with the link of the post I included in my original message, for it is not only me with these problems. Thank you.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok, if the Reader complaint becomes a big enough issue for you to spend time on, let me know and I’m happy to help!

  • Unknown's avatar

Robyn, I gave you a list of many problems I have been having, and why you elected to focus on only one, and along with that one, asking me to spend even more time giving you more iinformation, I do not understand at all. It is not the point of if the reader complaint becomes a big enough issue for me, but rather, the time element involved. I barely have time to keep up with my blog as it is. I’ve alerted WP support of these many problems, that not only I but many people are having. I again ask you to read the comments associated with the post I gave you in my original contact information. Thank you.

  • Unknown's avatar

For your convenience here once more is the link to my post which states the problems I am having and in the comment section, how many others of my followers, (just a tiny representation of WP in its totality) are having as well. There is also a number 11 problem that I just found out about. Some of my comments seem to be ending up in others’ spam filter now.

Please keep in mind this was written when I was very upset, at my wits’ end. As previously stated, I do run my own business as well as blogging, am very involved in my photography, with a marriage to keep balanced on top of it all. Yes, when I say I am busy I am. Don’t ask me to do further work for you to troubleshoot. I know you are very well aware of the problems and I am only just one small voice of those who have stepped forward to say something. Thank you.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!

Thank you for the link. In general, we don’t respond to blog posts, but we try our best to deal with the issues you raise here in this thread.

Don’t ask me to do further work for you to troubleshoot.

In order to figure out why these things are happening when you use our system, we need information from you. As much as we all wish it were true, we can not magically understand everything about your particular system, or instantly know when a bug is happening with our system rather than with a browser or computer.

I’ll try to address all of your complaints here, however I will need further information from you in order to address any issues I don’t already have solutions for.

    1. With every new post I write, I get timed out and I am forced to sign back into WordPress.

I’m sorry that this happens to you. However, it sounds like a connection issue with your ISP. Does this happen when you work from different locations (a nearby cafe or library) or other computers?

    2. I am finding my WP friends in my spam folder.

Unfortunately this happens sometimes. The best thing you can do is mark them as “Not Spam” and our spam filter will learn from that.

    3. There are blogs in my reader that I am NOT following yet have a check mark that says I am following. The blogs I do follow, for the most part, are not in my reader.

As Robyn mentioned, in order to be able to look into why this is happening, we need to know what to look out for. If you can tell us a couple of sites that you’re seeing your Reader, but did not follow, and a couple that you’re not seeing that you did follow, then we can dig into why this is happening. However, without this information, all we have is a list of sites that your account is following with no information about what should or should not be showing up there.

    4. There have been times the order I put photographs on a new unpublished post is not the order I put them on, so I have to delete them and start all over again.

I’ve never heard of this happening before and I’d love to get it fixed up for you. Are you creating a gallery? Or inserting several images individually? Can you give me any other information to recreate this issue?

    5. Whenever I go to write a new post, my editor is not the way I left it and I have to put it the way I like it to be.

This sounds like an issue we had about a month ago where user’s selection between Text and Visual was not being saved. Is this what you’re talking about? Are you still having this problem? Can you try clearing your cache and cookies:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Also, the size of my photographs always has been the largest, and again, whenever I start a new post, I have noticed that the setting for photograph size is down to medium.

Our editor will try to identify the best size to use for your content area based on the specific sizes set for small, medium, and large as well as the original size of the image you’re uploading. You can always update these settings through your dashboard at Settings > Media.

    6. I have looked at the new system on how to create a post, and I refuse to use it. Why? Because I deliberately took a lot of time to delete a lot of my tags, keeping only those I use the most. The new system has ALL my tags which add up to be a LOT and would take me forever to scroll down to find the ones I do use.

The tags that are appear are the ones active on your site. According to your tag page you have 2,490 tags. You can of course delete any of these that you’re not using, and I highly advise consolidating any that are slight variations.

Our developers are also currently thinking about better ways to display the tags, including tag clouds or auto fill.

    7. I received a notice from WP the other day that I am to be congratulated for being on WP TWO years. Friends, my ONE year anniversary is coming up in September of this year.

Your account was created two years ago on August 25, 2012. On the contrary, your site herladypinkrose.wordpress.com was created about a year ago.

    8. I am unable to access my “About” page from the main page at Petals, but must access it through my dashboard.

I’m having no trouble accessing your About page through the front of your site. What happens when you try? Can you confirm that you’re clicking on the link “About” at the top left in your sidebar?

    9. After a post has been published, I have noticed that the spacing has changed, so I have to re-edit to put the spacing the way I had it when I published the post.

Its true, our editor isn’t perfect. I highly suggest previewing your post before publishing.

    10. Who else besides me is getting the Beep Beep Boop when you go from previewing an unpublished post back to editing?

We’ve already addressed this several times. We’ve added an opt out option as well as deploying many fixes for the new editor. You are of course allowed to continue using the classic editor, and your browser will remember your choice as long as you click on the link in the editor.

I’m happy to help you with any of the issues above. However, I do need your cooperation to do so. I’m sorry that these updates have been frustrating for you. We’re doing everything we can to make the blogging experience here at WordPress.com better than it has been before.

Shawna, let me right up front apologize for my tone with my past correspondances to Support. I have been extremely frustrated due to so many problems one on top of the other occurring. I am very tired as of this writing, so any errors in spelling please excuse.

Many of these problems I have listed others as well are experiencing. My reader I have elected to unfollow all blogs I know do not belong in my reader and just go on from there. And yes I do know. I may be following a ton of blogs, which I am, yet, I have an ability to recognize an avatar when I see it. That and I make sure I recognize those avatars that are following me. Yes, I do make mistakes …. the sheer volume I have is overwhelming at times.

Spam … I am getting in the habit of checking.

Spacing … I do check on preview with every post before I publish and even then the spacing changes after I publish. I have had no issues with my editor or spacing either, not until the new editor came aboard.

My mistake about wordpress. I know Petals is only been around since Sept of last year. Due to some brain issues I have from a severe injury I have memory blanks at times, and for the life of me I am not able to remember being in WP for 2 years. So my apologies with this as well.

Getting signed out after I start a new post has only just begun. I clean cookies every time I use my internet, so I know it is not this. I have learned to take a deep breath and just sign back in. Again, I am not alone having this problem.

Any other issues I am handling in my own way. Blogging is very challenging for me because of what I do mostly behind the scenes. People come to me for comfort and for friendship and for advice and for Love. Hard to believe for you me telling you this, especially after the way I spoke so rudely. But yes, needless to say, I spend hours of almost every day encouraging and lifting others up. That is what Petals represents. Showing everyone Love, speaking Truth, and sharing my Gifts of Photography and Writing. My Goal is to make a difference in this harsh and cold world and to know that I am really reaching those who come to Petals gives me more happiness then I can even begin to describe.

In closing, the issues I am having are all probably related to the “new” that WP is implamenting. I hope over time they do resolve for they are obnoxious at times, OH believe me! I know of several people who have pulled back on their posts due to problems they are experiencing. I have pulled back as well, not posting as often as I used to. Photographs not posting correctly, having trouble staying signed in, spacing getting a mixed up …. and it goes on. WP bloggers are really frustrated and at times really angry. There are a lot of people with good Hearts and with good Intentions at WP, which in my opinion, you should really be proud of who are known under the banner of WP. They are the ones who make WP look good. The talent that is within the WP community blows my mind at times. It is just that tremendously impressive!!

    Sincerely,
    Amy Skalski

    Hi Amy,

Thanks for your response. I totally understand that things can pile up. I’d love to fix what we can here.

Getting signed out after I start a new post has only just begun. I clean cookies every time I use my internet, so I know it is not this. I have learned to take a deep breath and just sign back in. Again, I am not alone having this problem.

Does this happen in all browsers? Or just Safari? It sounds like you may have an issue with what’s called a “nonce”. This might be fixed by manually clearing your cache and cookies, rather than letting the browser do this for you automatically. Could you give it a try?

    Solve Common Browser Issues

The talent that is within the WP community blows my mind at times. It is just that tremendously impressive!!

I completely agree with this sentiment. Our bloggers, coders, volunteers, and readers are the best part of WordPress. And WordPress.com represents such a small part of that community.

I would love to work with you to identify the specific issues happening with your images and spacing. Both of the behaviors you’ve described should not be happening, but I haven’t been able to recreate them on my test site.

If you don’t want to deal with this right now, one thing that would be helpful is to drop us a note either in this thread, or by starting a new one, when one of these things happens again. While it’s happening, take a couple of screenshots (of what you’re seeing in the editor versus what you’re seeing in your post) and upload them to your Media Library. Once we have that information, I or one of the other Happiness Engineers can work to figure out why this is happening.

I want you to know that we’re committed to making the blogging experience here at WordPress.com the best possible. And we promise to listen and respond when we make mistakes.

Shawna, I've notice when I switch from “address” spacing for my poetry, back to paragraph when I have completed a poem and proceed to write my copyright statement at the bottom, that is where the spacing goofs. It looks right in my editor, then when I go to preview, the printing is too close, so I go back to the editor and manually put another space in. This is about the only time I have seen this happen, but it has only begun to happen since the new editor has been put into place. I've also noticed that the spacing is wrong after I publish even after checking it in preview and adjusting it.

Spacing is crucial in my posts due to the poetry I write and how I insert the photos that I chose to enhance the words I write. I've come to recognize what looks balanced and good and that is the format I have retained. My aim is to present quality work, both in style and in content. In looking back on how I began, I am so humbled to see where I am today. My work has improved drastically and to actually SEE this, makes me realize how very fortunate I am to have a place called Petals which disciplines me to improve all the time. Anyway … I ramble.

I do my work on my laptop, as in editing my photos and making up my posts. This is where I have been having the problems of getting logged out. I'm not sure about Safari, but I will do a trial run, by first signing myself out, sign back in, and make up a post today. Whenever I use windows I have to log in for some reason even though I am logged in on my Safari browser. I will do this and tell you my results.

I do manually clean history and cookies in Safari, and my Windows I have it set up to do it whenever I go online. I as well with this, manually remove cookies. When I do, I see that there are no cookies to remove for it has been done.

There have been incidences of crashing when I am in my Safari browser while I am in my notifications. This just started happening the last few days.

I have every intention of making up a new post today for tomorrow. I will use my Safari to write up the text part and do it the way I said I would. I want to begin as I do when I use my Windows browser …. logging in to begin.

Thank you for your patience. I will get back to you with the information regarding getting logged out. Is it only on my Windows browser or is it on Safari as well? I will have that answer for you shortly.

  • Unknown's avatar

Addendum: I've tried both on my iPad and laptop to print screen. Both I have failed with. I just made up a post on iPad, no logging out occurred, but what did occur, the spacing within the poem itself messed up. I tried to copy and past it to show you, but that didn't work either. Again I find myself very frustrated, so I am walking away from this for now. I will be creating my post as I normally do on my laptop, and yes, I will get logged out, but at least it will keep the spacing within my poem. Shawna, I am not very technologically minded. Just what I have accomplished at Petals is huge. Why my print screen is not working even when following directions, is beyond me. I honestly am just throwing up my hands at this point.

    Thank you.

Thanks for doing all of that! I definitely understand if its just too frustrating to deal with right now. Sometimes even people who work on computers all the time just have to take some time to step away. I do it all the time. :)

It looks like you attached a couple of images to an email response. Unfortunately, our system doesn’t work with those quite yet. Could you upload them to your Media Library for me?

I’ve notice when I switch from “address” spacing for my poetry, back to paragraph when I have completed a poem and proceed to write my copyright statement at the bottom, that is where the spacing goofs. It looks right in my editor, then when I go to preview, the printing is too close

This is some great information! I think this is happening because the tags to denote the different types of text are getting confused and overlapping a bit.

When you write your next poem post, can you try doing the various steps in this order:

    1. Write all of your content in first, including the copyright notice at the end.
    2. Add your pictures.
    3. Make sure everything is aligned to the center the way you like.
    4. And the very last step. Highlight each line and change the formatting to “Address”.

Let me know if that works for you.

As for the issue where you get logged out, it doesn’t have to be specifically Safari. Our system says you posted this thread from Safari, so I assumed its the browser you used most often. I just want to confirm if this happens in all of your browsers or just one. It sounds like you have two different computers as well. Does this happen on both of them?

This will help me narrow down if this is an issue with browser compatibility, or a possible issue with our system.

And thanks for the info about the cookies. Most people never touch them, so I just wanted to be really sure that that wasn’t where the issue was coming from.

Thanks so much for working with me on this. I’m looking forward to your responses. :)

Thanks for the image uploads! It definitely looks like some overlapping tags are the cause of the problems. Let me know if the steps I gave you above work okay for you. :)

Shawna, so far this is what I have concluded about the editor. I have yet to try it your way you described because the way I am doing it on my Windows browser is working. It is with my iPad on a Mac that the editor jumps all over the place and gets the tags messed up even when I do not change the tags. Anyway this is what I have concluded:

The CLASSIC editor when used on my windows browser works fine. The spacing gets a little tricky when I switch from address mode for my poetry to paragraph mode when I make my copyright statement at the end. I've had to change the spacing more then once, but that seems the only time. I will not use any editor on my iPad to create a post. The editor space itself is huge and when I go to touch the screen to insert something, it jumps up, and I must scroll down in order to get to my space, or the space that I had originally wanted to add something (a word or phrase) the cursor jumps to another spot, not where I wanted it. It is a real hassle, so I am sticking with my windows browser.

So yes, to answer your question, I am using two separate computers. All my editing software is on my windows laptop and that is where I do my editing and my posting for a new post. From there, I go to my iPad, to make sure everything looks good, double checking everything. When I do re-edit from my iPad, it gets at times very frustrating. The example I showed you, that was done on my iPad. I did not touch the tags, but for reasons I don't understand, the editor jumped from address mode to paragraph mode, and when I attempted to fix it, the spacing looked right in my editor, but not in preview, as you saw.

I am not 100% sure on this …. I will have to do another post to make sure. My last post that was created in my windows browser, I was not logged out. Again, due to being so absorbed in what I was creating, I am not able to say for sure if this truly happened. I will inform you of what happens with my next post.

People everywhere are complaining that they have not been receiving my blog in their reader (my usual followers) and I know I have not been receiving many of the blogs I do follow in my reader. I really don't have time to do what you asked me to do. Please just take my word for it that there are major problems going on with the reader system.

That is it for now. I hope my information helps you. I will be in touch to let you know 100% sure if I was logged out on my next new post using my windows browser.

    Thank you. Amy

Thanks for the info! I’ll do some testing and file bug reports as necessary.

Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any other threads about sites missing from the Reader. Without specific examples, there’s nothing for me to test so I can’t report a bug to our develoeprs.

However, I did take a look at your recent posts and it looks like you’re probably bumping up against our tag limit. If you have more than 15 tags and categories, we won’t show your post under the Reader tags. Its a good idea to focus your tags so that users can easily search for your content.
