Map block converts to list of markers

I’m using a map block to document my travel across Canada, and suddenly it converted from a map with markers to a list of clickable markers. Is there a limit to how many markers the map can display?

  • Hi there,

This has been an issue with the map block in the past – once adding more than 50 markers, the block displayed a list of locations instead of the map. But that issue went away on its own after a while.

Am I understanding that this happened spontaneously, rather than when you manually added a new marker to the map? If so, it might be changes on Mapbox’s end that’s causing this.

I can still report this to our developers in case there’s anything we can do from our end, though. I just need your answer to the question above so I can include that detail in the bug report.

Meanwhile, keep in mind that you can also create a custom map with location markers using Google Maps, and embed that on your site instead. You can find the process for that here:

Thanks for your response. I’ve been adding markers to the map every few days, I didn’t realize it was appearing as a list until a subscriber alerted me to the change – the map still appeared as a map to me when I added markers as I edited the page.

I hope this answers your question. 😬

  • Hello there,

That does answer the question – thank you :)

This relates to an ongoing issue we’re experiencing with the Map block whereby the map will not generate when viewing the site when more than 50+ markers are added.

I can see the page has 56 currently.

With the above in mind, you would probably look to replace this with a Google map instead as suggested above. https://wordpress.com/support/google-maps/#embedding-a-custom-map
