HI There
To map your domain to WordPress you will need an upgraded plan. Here is a link to show the plans we have.
https://wordpress.com/pricing/I suggest upgrading the plan, and start building your site. This will allow you to have access to all the plan features. Once your site is built, you can start the domain mapping process. You could also just transfer your domain to WordPress.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/The other option is to start building your site on the free plan and then do the upgrade and mapping process.
I hope this helps some.

Hi there,
What I understand is, you have already purchased a domain name with some other provider. However, you would like to keep it and build a website using the same Domain name with WordPress.com.
In that case, you can easily keep your domain by domain mapping.
What is domain mapping :
–You keep the domain registered with the company you purchased it from (the registrar), such as GoDaddy or 1&1, but point the domain here so it loads your WordPress.com site.
–You will still need to pay the current registrar to keep the domain active every year.
–Some domain settings and configurations will need to be made with the current registrar. To map a domain, you would need the following:
–An upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site (such as a Personal, Premium or Business plan, etc.)
–To add a mapping subscription to your site
–To update the name servers for the domain so they point to WordPress.com.Steps for mapping a Domain:
– Go to My sites>Domain
– Select add domain
–Then select the option “Use a domain I own”
–On the next screen, select “Map Your Domain”
–lastly, Enter the domain you’d like to map and click the Add button. Then complete checkout. After this, you would wanna make sure your domain is pointed here by changing the name servers with your current domain registrar if you haven’t already. See the link here for more information.
You can read all about domain mapping in the documentation here
I hope this helps. In case you have any other questions, please feel free to respond to this thread. I’ll be happy to help :).
Thanks,
Chandni
