Map domain but keep menus/nav bar
-
I have a wordpress blog that I would like to appear on my domain. I saw the support docs/instructions for it, but I’m wondering how/if I’ll still be able to maintain my menus and nav bars on my website (www.trywine.net). I just want the blog to appear on the homepage but still have visitors be able to get to my media page, services, etc.
Can someone briefly explain how that works?
Thanks in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you map trywine.net to your blog here, everything at trywine.net is going to go away.
You have two options:
1. Map your blog here to a subdomain of your main site such as blog.trywine.net: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/ .
2. Install the wordpress software at your web host and then export your blog from here and import it to your new wordpress installation at your web host. With this though, if you install it at the main domain name, you are going to have to “hack” a theme in order to have links in the top navigation tabs lead to your existing stuff. There is a plugin that will allow that sort of thing, but I can’t remember the name of it.

If you do option 1, that is correct.
You would have to install the wordpress software at godaddy. They have a 1-button install script there I’m sure, but I don’t know if the script has the latest version of wordpress or not. If I remember right, their lowest type of account may not work with wordpress and you might have to upgrade your account to be able to use the wordpress software.

Thanks–you are right. I must have the cheapest type of account, because it wouldn’t let me install it. So I am going to contact godaddy to upgrade and then install.

thanks for your help–i’ve gotten as far as installing upgrading my godaddy account, installing WordPress on it and importing my blog entries. Do you know what the plug in is to hack a theme in order to get my menus/nav bar for my existing site onto my blog?

Sorry, you are in the wrong forum and need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.
These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently and our answers typically will not work for you.
If you do not know the difference, see this support document: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .
