  It’s your choice as long as you have a WordPress.com site with a paid plan. However it does depend how long you’ve owned your domain. Domains can be transferred when you’ve owned them for 60 days. And there are a few domain extensions that cannot be transferred here at all. In that case mapping is the only option.
