map to existing domain, but still access email via macmail client?
-
I plan to map my wordpress site to a domain I own in order to remove ‘wordpress’ from the url. The domain is currently pointing to a website that will be taken down. The website is hosted along with 3 email boxes by an external provider. Once I’ve mapped my domain to my wordpress site, I will need to access my email and want to continue doing this using macmail.
1. Can I continue to use macmail to send and receive email? It’s not clear from the wordpress support, which only provides guidance on Google!
2. Where do I get the mail server details from to enter into my macmail / wordpress domain dashboard?
If it helps, fasthosts is the domain company that my domain is registered to.
Thanks, Nicky

Usually what you want can be done.
You need to get the information from your existing mail host on how to point to their mail servers and your account. Then the new records are added in the DNS section of your domain mapping.
I use my old host and had to add new A & MX records – each host seems to be a bit different so it can take a bit of work to get the correct information in the correct format.

Thanks for the response. However, I don’t want to stay with the existing mail host – if I stop the website hosting, then the email stops too.
Assuming that website and email hosting can be separate, I wonder if this is a question for Fasthosts?

Many Registrars and Hosts offer an email only service, the cost is usually reduced from a full hosting service. Yes as soon as your site is mapped to a WordPress.COM blog then the old email will stop working unless changes are made to specifically enable email to work.
