Mapped domain

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello

    re b4hwa.wordpress.com

For this site I mapped the domain to http://b4hwa.com

However I have since put in a domain transfer for http://b4hwa.com/ to tranfer it to WordPress.

Do I need to cancel the domain mapping or does it not matter once the transfer goes through (I can’t see any way to cancel the mapping).

Also, I was changed US$5 for the domain transfer, I thought it was free?

    Thanks

    Chris

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Chris,

There is no need to cancel the domain mapping, no. Having the mapping will ensure your domain keeps working throughout the transfer.

Also, I was changed US$5 for the domain transfer, I thought it was free?

Domain transfers are only free if done as part of purchasing a paid plan. But the plan on your site is owned by a different account, gwdt, so only that account can transfer in a domain for free as part of the plan. In fact, you should have been charged the full $18 registration cost for a .com domain to transfer it in, but our system gave you an automatic discount because you have the mapping upgrade in your account.

If the other user agrees, we can link the domain to the plan once transferred, and then refund your payment, but they’ll need to comment here to confirm once the domain transfer is complete.

It’s also not ideal to have the plan and domain in different accounts like you currently have, so I would recommend you consider consolidating all the upgrades in a single account. But that’s something you and the other admin on the site need to discuss between you.

OK, thanks. I thought both the admin accounts were linked to the same WordPress account. I will get the other admin to confirm here, as you suggest and also consolidate the accounts.

    Hi,

Please go ahead with these suggestions.

    – link the domain to the plan once transferred (and I’ll get the $5 refund)
    – consolidate all the upgrades in a single account.

    Thanks
    George

  • Thanks folks. Just to clarify a few things:

    1. For the $5 refund, we would refund to the account that was charged. In this case that’s @catsilversun.

    2. After the domain is transferred from your old registry, the easiest course would be to transfer the plan to @catsilversun as well; staff can do that for you. Or, if you prefer, you can go through a domain transfer process again (no fee this time; just changing owners) to consolidate the domain and plan under @gwdt’s account. It would just take a few extra days, so I recommend fixing point 4 before that.

    3. Can you decide what you want to do and keep us informed? Let us know when the domain transfer is complete, and let us know which account you’re moving everything to. We’ll go from there.

    4. While checking all of this out for you, I noticed you’re actually using conflicting name servers. You’ll want to fix that as soon as you can, though I’m guessing the setting is locked during transfer. Please let us know if you need help with that once the transfer is in.

    > I can’t fix this, as you say, it is locked. But I thought the names servers would update automatically to WordPress once the transfer occurred? Otherwise I will contact you to sort it out.

  • I thought the names servers would update automatically to WordPress once the transfer occurred?

We do not automatically update the name servers, no, as that would cause the site currently on the domain to instantly go offline the moment a transfer completes.

But once the transfer completes you’ll be able to do that from My Site ->Manage ->Domains. While a transfer is in progress the domain is locked for all changes.

  • Or, if you prefer, you can go through a domain transfer process again (no fee this time; just changing owners) to consolidate the domain and plan under @gwdt‘s account. It would just take a few extra days, so I recommend fixing point 4 before that.

Just a small correction here – what you’d do here is a user to user transfer, which is instant, and does not cause the domain to be locked for changes. It’s a completely different process from the domain transfer you’re currently doing.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-a-domain-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

I’ve gone ahead and refunded the $5 payment to @catsilversun, as the domain is already linked to the plan now.

Once the domain transfer is complete, @catsilversun can then follow the process I linked to above to move the domain to @gwdt’s account.

Or otherwise, @gwdt can comment here to confirm if we instead should move the plan to @catsilversun’s account.

This is not absolutely necessary, but it can cause issues with future renewals if the upgrades are in different accounts, so we recommend that you have both in the same account instead.

Thanks for the clarification re. “Just a small correction here – what you’d do here is a user to user transfer, which is instant, and does not cause the domain to be locked for changes. It’s a completely different process from the domain transfer you’re currently doing”.

I thought the initial suggestion was odd, as we already transferred/re-delegated the domain to WordPress, so this is good to know.

But I will need to get back to you as to whether we do a user to user transfer.

    Hello again.

The domain has been transferred, I am just waiting for the registrant to confirm the email. So I still need to confirm the account issues above.

However, I need to add some domain forwarders.

    I have added these:

(email visible only to moderators and staff) forwards to (email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff) forwards to (email visible only to moderators and staff)

but I also need to add these two as well, but I can’t add another forwarder to the same email.

(email visible only to moderators and staff) forwards to (email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff) forwards to (email visible only to moderators and staff)

Can you do this manually for me?

    Thanks

just noticed those email addresses aren’t showing,.

    Should be:

(email visible only to moderators and staff) forwards to (email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff) forwards to (email visible only to moderators and staff)

but I still need to add these two as well. WordPresss won’t let me add another forwarder to the same email.

(email visible only to moderators and staff) forwards to (email visible only to moderators and staff)
(email visible only to moderators and staff) forwards to (email visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hi there,

Emails from one account cannot be forwarded to more than one address. To set this up you need to configure the email that receives the forwarded message to forward it in turn to other email addresses.
