Mapped domain name giving error

  • Unknown's avatar

Despite as much help as I can get from my domain provider, I am still having error messages when trying to view my page, yinningyang.com.au It is definitely mapped correctly at Crazy Domains end. Everything worked fine on my wordpress site (yinningyang.wordpress.com) until I made my new domain name the primary one. I have cleared all cache etc multiple times and nothing changes.
The current message on screen is when viewing a page within WordPress is:
    “Not Found

The requested URL /essential-oils/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”

When I search from my site via the URL, the message I get is:
    “The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.”

Please help. I have been having this problem for months now and am losing money.

Hi, Is there anyone who can give me the steps to rectify my problem with this? I can’t find any support anywhere to help me.

  • Unknown's avatar

Please, please pretty please….I have been seeking help about the errors that have occurred since transferring my domain over for MONTHS now and my requests continue to be ignored. I have tried all methods suggested by your support files and FireFox’s too. I need this rectified urgently.

I have flagged this for the staff to help – sometimes with a .au extension they need to manually add a zone record to help things – your name servers don’t seem to be pointing to WordPress.COM but that could be a function of needing a zone record

Thank you so much for responding! You have honestly made me day! Thank you for any help you can give me.

  • Hi @yinningyang,

Actually the trouble is that your domain still points to a different host. Can you use our nameservers instead? They are:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

Once you’ve made those changes, wait a few hours for your computer to forget the domain’s old location, then it will start working. Let us know if you need more help!

I’m sorry, but I’m very new at this. I’m not sure what you mean by ‘using your nameservers’. I will gladly do whatever it takes, but just need more instructions about how to do this. Sorry to be any trouble. Thank you so much for your help!

This should help a bit – you can also ask your Registrar for help changing the name servers and they should be able to help – refer them to this thread

  • Where did you buy the domain, yinningyang? If you can contact them, that would be ideal. Otherwise if you’ll give us a URL for their site we’ll see if we can find a how-to.

They are crazy domain (https://www.crazydomains.com.au/). They have given me screenshot evidence that it is linked correctly from their end. They did it straight away on the 8/11/15 (11/8/15 in your date order) and have been extremely helpful at trying to rectify the issue. They believe that it is a WordPress problem, but I obviously wouldn’t know, so if it is not too much of a problem, I would appreciate it if you could find the how-to for me and guide me through.
I converted from Weebly prior to this and did not have these issues, so I am quite stumped.
I was hoping to launch my blog-based business as of that week in November, so I have been losing potential business since then.

  • @yinningyang, right now the domain points to these nameservers:

    ns2.syrahost.com

    ns1.syrahost.com

You can see that here on crazydomains’ WHOIS page:
    https://www.crazydomains.com.au/whois/yinningyang.com.au/#resultyinningyang.com.au/#resultyinningyang.com.au/#resultyinningyang.com.au/#resultyinningyang.com.au/#resultyinningyang.com.au/#result

Can they help you fix it so that page lists these nameservers instead?

    ns1.wordpress.com

    ns2.wordpress.com

    ns3.wordpress.com

  • And remember, once the make those changes, you’ll need to leave them in place for a few hours so they can take effect. I’m wondering if you’ve changed them, then changed them back right away when it didn’t work.

Basically, your computer thinks the domain is pointed to syrahost.com right now, and it will remember that for a few hours at a time.

If you change it to point to wordpress.com (using the nameservers I listed), you need to give your computer time to forget that it was at syrahost.com . Once it’s forgotten where the domain is pointed, it will look up the information again, and hopefully find that it’s pointed to WordPress.com. But you’ll need to make sure that setting is sticking with Crazydomains.

This is my response from Crazy Domain following my request to make the changes outlines above….

    Hello Lauren,

    Thank you for your email.

We cannot just update the Name Servers pointed to WordPress as your email will be affected on the name server change. If you wish to point the website WordPress without affecting your email, please give us the website A and CNAME record instead so we can add this for you.

    Thank you,

    Byron L

    What should I do now?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi @supernovia, are you able to provide me with any further assistance based on the information I was given from ‘Crazy Domain’? I am desperate.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh..I’ve just seen that you’re closed until the 4th. Sorry!

  • Hi @yinningyang, a cname wouldn’t work in this case. But I will email you with our current IP addresses. I won’t list them here, because they do change from time to time. You would need to update them at crazydomains whenever we change them.

If, on the other hand, they can give us a cname, MX records, or whatever else is needed, we’d be happy to help you set up their mail settings on our DNS.

    DNS records

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi @supernovia, I have the following feedback for you from Crazy Domain…
    Thank you for your email.

Please let them add these records on their sytem.

    mail A record -> 27.124.113.33
    mail MX record ->mail.yinningyang.com.au

Once the record is added, please let us know so we can update the name serves pointed to WordPress.

    Thank you

  • @yinningyang, perfect. The MX record was already there, so I’ve added the A record for you. Tell them you can point the domain here safely now. :)

Also, for future reference (or in case someone else runs across this post) you are welcome to add those DNS records on your own, too. This article explains how to edit DNS at WordPress.com:

Thank you. I have passed it on and will let you know of the progress! Your help has been wonderful! Thank you again @supernovia

  • Thanks @yinningyang, right now they have only added a forwarder, and that will not work. Make sure they understand the name severs must be set as follows:

    ns1.wordpress.com

    ns2.wordpress.com

    ns3.wordpress.com
