Mapped domain to WordPress – email settings

    Hi, I have mapped my domain name (scanconsulting.com.au registered at Crazy Domains / Glovine) to my WordPress web site as per the instructions and that is working fine.
    I have changed the Nameserver settings at Glovine to point to WordPress.
    I am now trying to set up the DNS records at WordPress to allow my email to work back at Glovine.
    I have set up an MX record “MX 10 mail.scanconsulting.com.au” but email does not work.
    Is this MX record correct, and if so is there anything else that needs to be done at the WordPress end?

  • Hi there – could you please also try adding this A record as well?

    A mail 203.170.82.73

    If that doesn’t work, please ask Crazy Domains what the correct IP address is. Let me know how it goes!

    Thanks for that info.
    It does not seem to be working with that IP, but I am following up with Glovine/CrazyDomains to find out what the correct IP is.
    I will let you know how it goes.

    One question please:
    How quickly should it take effect after I update the DNS record at WordPress?

    If I get the correct IP and update the A record, should the email start working immediately, or is there likely to be some delay?

    The reason I ask is that after I mapped the domain and set up the MX record originally, I tested that the email was working and all seemed to be well for an hour or so, but not the following day. Iam guessing this was due to some sort of DNS propogation delay.

    Just to update progress..

    I got the correct IP address and updated the A record. The complete DNS record entry at WordPress is now:

    A mail 119.252.189.21
    MX 10 mail.scanconsulting.com.au.

    It took some time, but eventually the email started to work again, and has now been working for 12 hours or so.

    So I am hopeful that all will be well.

    Yes, email MX/DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to fully take effect. Glad it’s working for you now!
