Mapping

We have everything through GoDaddy – domain, host, website builder. We are unhappy with their website builder and want to use WordPress. If we map the domain to WordPress, since building a new site may take weeks, will the website the public sees be blank for that time until we publish from WordPress or will the site stay active (through GoDaddy) until we publish the new site from WordPress?

    Thanks!

    Hi velanwatch

Keep your site as it is with Godaddy as of now.

You can do one thing start transferring your site from Godaddy to WordPress.com. You can use the free subdomain which WordPress.com provides. Even if you need to upgrade to get access to more features you can do that and whenever you feel like it’s all set to make your site public then you can map your old domain to this new WordPress.com site.

Here is the support document that will help you to know the complete transferring process from Godaddy to WordPress.com:

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi there,

As explained above, you don’t need to map your domain to us right away.

Start by creating a new site using the free URL we provide, and start transferring your content, and customize the site how you want it.

Then, only once you’re ready for the new site with us to go live, will you switch the domain over to us, taking the GoDaddy site offline.

Let us know if you have any questions about this.
