hi, how can I map a domain name without buying a yearly subscription.

That’s not possible. You have to register a plan and purchase a domain mapping upgrade http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ that is annually renewable.

You require and underlying .wordpress.com site to domain map from to your domain URL. WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. See: Map an existing domain (one you already own) to your WordPress.com blog – if you already have a domain that you registered and purchased elsewhere.

Hi, yes, I have tried this, but keep getting only options for basic and premium upgrade. I heard it was like $13 to map my own already registered domain name. the site was just reset, so its fresh. what else can I do…? thx

  • Hi there,

I heard it was like $13 to map my own already registered domain name

That is only if you already have a plan and on domain connected to your site. As @timethief correctly indicated, you will first need to add a plan under My Site ->Plans and then you’ll be able to add a domain mapping using the free domain included in the plan. If you then want to add extra domain mappings you can do that at $13 a mapping.
