mapping a domain using A records

    I purchased my domain (mallorypettas.com) through wix, and was hoping to map that domain to the site that I built on WordPress (mallorypettas.wordpress.com). However, wix won’t let me change the nameservers, only the A records, meaning I would need an IP address from wordpress. Would I be able to map my domain just with the A record? If not, how can I transfer my domain from wix to the wordpress registrar?

    The best way to map a domain to a WordPress.com blog is to set your domain’s nameservers to the following values:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

    However, if your registrar requires that you create A records, please note that our IPs change over time. Because of this, your domain might stop working at some point in the future. If that happens, please get in touch with us to find out the most current IPs and then update your A records accordingly.

    If you still want to go ahead and map your domain using A records, please be sure to create at least two, pointing to two different IPs from the list below:

    76.74.254.123

    66.155.9.238

    192.0.81.250

    192.0.80.250

    66.155.11.238

    76.74.254.120

    Just to confirm, I can map my domain from wix to wordpress by changing two A records WITHOUT changing any name servers? For the future, is there an easier way to find out the IPs other than submitting a forum post?

    Could you also please tell me what it would take to transfer my domain from wix to here? I already know how to get the transfer code from Wix, I just don’t know how or where to submit it on wordpress to change registrars. That might be a better solution in the long run for me, because I’d rather not have to change the IP every so often. Thanks!

    Correct, you will want to leave the nameservers pointing to Wix (or wherever they are now)

    For the future, is there an easier way to find out the IPs other than submitting a forum post?

    Because the IP’s can change, you’ll need to contact us if you need them again for some reason.

    While we register new domains here at WordPress.com, we’re not able to accept incoming transfers of existing domain names. However, you could look into transferring your domain to a registrar that DOES allow the use of nameservers.
