Hello @mulakaat
Please follow this official support guide to connect your sub-domain to your WordPress.COM blog.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-subdomain/NOTE: You will need an upgraded WordPress.COM plan in order to map your sub-domain. So no currently it is not free.
Hope this helps 🙂

Hello @otpidusprime
On the link that you have mentioned https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-subdomain/
it is written that
Our WordPress.com plans come with a free domain credit that you can use to map a subdomain you already own.
So, can you tell what does it mean -
It mean when you upgrade to any plan, even plan comes with a free custom domain(like example.com) option which you can register for your site. Using this credit you can map your sub-domain

Howdy –
Yes, you can use the domain credit from a plan upgrade to map a sub domain. There is not a free option to this.
WordPress.com Personal is the most affordable option for $35.88/year but you can see all the plans and features side-by-side at wordpress.com/pricing/
