Mapping an existing domain (../index.html required?)

I’m trying to map an existing domain to a blog hosted at wordpress.com.

I’ve gone through the domain mapping upgrade and updated my domain’s name servers and the primary domain for the blog. However, when I punch the URL into a browser, I get a placeholder page from the domain registrar, not my wordpress.com-hosted blog. The placeholder page leads me to a description of the problem, which is as follows:

“In order for a visitor to see your web site at your domain, your site must include a file called ‘index.html.’ Files called ‘page1.html’ or ‘home.html’ or ‘default.html’ for example, will NOT appear as your primary page when visitors arrive. You should rename it index.html for it to be visible as your site’s default home page.”

There is no such page. How do I make my blog’s home page a file named “index.html?”

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It can take anywhere from a few hours, to as much as 72 for your blog to start showing up on your domain. This time is just the time it takes for your DNS changes to propagate through all the internet name servers.

WordPress is written in PHP script, and you automatically have an index.php file, and it will automatically pick up and display correctly once the propagation happens.

You just need to give it a little time is all. Literally tens of thousands have done this before you, and as long as the DNS servers are pointing at wordpress.COM, and as long as you followed the instructions here, http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/ , then all will be OK.

I should note that most times it takes less than 24 hours for things to stabilize and work.

I’ll be darned. Took a couple days, but worked just fine.

Patience is such an underrated virtue.
