mapping an existing domain to wordpress

  why can’t I map an existing www domain to wordpress? what are my options around it? my old domain keeps pointing to my old website.

  You buy the Domain mapping upgrade and you map the parent domain, whatever.com, not the www domain, http://www.whatever.com.
