Mapping an existing domain using an IP address
-
I purchased the domain mapping upgrade but my internet provider has recommended that I not change my nameservers and would like to point my current URL (www.sugarlodge.com) to an IP address instead. Is there a preferred address that I should use. I noticed in the “Map an Existing Domain” help section three IP options. Which should I provide? Do I follow the same steps listed in the help section after using an IP address?
Thanks,
Bob

We require the nameservers to be changed in order to facilitate the mapping.
Is there any reason for why your provider is refusing your right to change your nameservers?

That would disrupt your email, but ask them for your MX records. Once you map the domain over, you can add the MX records to your Custom DNS panel to restore your email service.

Here are the MX records my provider provided:
Host TTL MX Answer
sugarlodge.com. 7200 40 sugarlodge.com.mx4.gmavt.rcimx.net.
sugarlodge.com. 7200 10 sugarlodge.com.mx1.gmavt.rcimx.net.
sugarlodge.com. 7200 20 sugarlodge.com.mx2.gmavt.rcimx.net.
sugarlodge.com. 7200 30 sugarlodge.com.mx3.gmavt.rcimx.netThey seem longer than the other examples I have seen.
Do I need all of it? Is there a specific format I should put it in?
Thanks,

Hi Bob,
Yes, you’ll want to add what your registrar provided to your custom DNS records.
The MX records will have to be entered in the format on this page (i.e. MX sugarlodge.com. 7200 40 sugarlodge.com.mx4.gmavt.rcimx.net.):
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/You’ll be able to add these after you’ve completed the domain mapping upgrade.
