Mapping an existing website

Hi there – I have an existing site created on and maintained on iWeb, which is no longer supported by Apple/Mac, so I’m going to create a whole new page/look using WordPress. It’s hosted by GoDaddy. I want to be able to design and build my ‘new’ site here without having it go live until I’m good and ready. If I ‘map’ my site, will my current site stop being sourced at iWeb––in which case it will look broken and half-built while I work on my new on here? If so, maybe I should build my new site under a domain name I don’t intend to ever use, and switch the names later, when I go live? Does that even make sense? Thanks in advance, I appear to have a lot of questions! – Mark
    Thanks for your help?

    Hi markrigney1

    Welcome to WordPress.com!

You can create your site under free wordpress.com address and work on it. Once you feel like everything is ready on your end then you can map your existing domain to your WordPress.com site and make your website live.

There is nothing like that you want to add your domain first to build a new website you can work with the free wordpress.com site address.

Just remember one thing you can also create your site under the free plan but with basic features and to add your existing domain to your site you must have to upgrade to any of the paid plans. So, you can even upgrade while registering your site and use the additional features which the plans support from the beginning or you can create a site with the basic features then you can upgrade your site when you are ready to go for mapping your domain. This all depends on your choice.

Let me know if you have questions.

    Hope this helps.
