Mapping an existing website and still having access to the content
-
Hi, I own halftribe.com and would like to covert it to a blog for easier maintenance. I don’t want to lose the current content at halftribe.com and I would like to import that content unto the new blog. Are these possible if I map my new blog halftribedotcom.wordpress.com to halftribe.com?

These are the instructions to import content http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ and here are the ones to map an existing domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

Does your halftribe website use Joomla? If so the migration of your site will not be as easy as from a blogging software such as those mentioned in the WordPress.com import article.
This previous thread provides some insight into the potential for complexity on WordPress.com.
It does appear that plugins are available for migrating to the WordPress.org version of WordPress. And thence to WordPress.com if that is the chosen WordPress platform.
