Mapping Domain Names

Hello, I am trying to map to a domain name that I own and it says
-Domain registration and billing will remain at your current provider
-Manage some domain settings at your current provider and some at WordPress.com
-Requires changes to the domain’s DNS
-Free with your plan, but registration costs at your current provider still apply
But when I get to the end it wants to charge me $96 like I am transferring.
Can anyone help me with what I am doing wrong?

    Hi @richied77777,

As stated in the mapping manual, mapping subscription itself is free, but:

To map a domain, you’ll need:
An upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site (Personal, Premium, Business, or eCommerce.)

That means at least Personal Plan has to be purchased to have a free domain mapping subscription.
However when you add a domain mapping, you will automatically be added most popular Premium plan into your cart. If you want to continue with Personal plan, you can empty the basket, choose a Personal plan, then quit from checkout and add a domain mapping subscription and then continue in checkout.

I will add this thread for Staff attention.
Please feel free to ask if any.

You’re not doing anything wrong. The key phrase here is “with your plan” – domain mapping is free, but only if you purchase a paid plan.
