Mapping domain to squarespace

  After building a new site for my business, I have been trying in vain to map my WordPress domain generationfarmnh.com to Squarespace. I followed the instructions given by Squarespace on mapping – the new CNAME records seem to go through just fine, but the A records are giving me trouble.

  I created the four new A records with the proper IP addresses – though the Name box I could not leave blank (as directed) or use @ without getting an ‘invalid’ message. The only name that would not yield ‘invalid’ is generationfarm.wordpress.com (I don’t understand why generationfarmnh.com would be invalid). The Sqaurespace end of the DNS settings was displaying totally wrong IP addresses to the ones I entered on WordPress DNS, or simply ‘record not found’. I waited 72 hours and it was still not working – I scoured the internet for advice but found nothing helpful thus far. I’m very new to mapping & DNS so I could really use some help!

  I have read both of those support docs – but neither helped much. I am able to create A records but they seem to not be making it to the squarespace DNS properly, despite the correct IP addresses (I am thinking it has something to do with the Name maybe?). Thank you though! Hopefully a moderator has some ideas.

  Hi there,

  There’s a bit of a trick to this: you first need to change the default WordPress.com A-record to one of Squarespace’s IPs and save it. Then it will allow you to add the rest of them as new records.

  I have made the necessary changes for you, so it should work within few hours once those records have had time to update.
